Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a DOCX file to PDF without Word?

Yes — drop a .docx file and choose "PDF document." The page is rendered and flattened into image-based PDF pages, so the text won't be selectable afterward, but no copy of Word or any server is needed.

Can I convert a PowerPoint file to text or Markdown?

Yes — .pptx files can be converted to plain text or Markdown. This extracts the text from each slide; slide design, images, and layout aren't preserved.

Why can't I convert Word to PowerPoint, or PDF to an editable Word doc?

True any-to-any, full-fidelity conversion needs a server running software like LibreOffice or Pandoc. Since every PDFly tool runs entirely in your browser with no server at all, conversions here are limited to formats a browser can genuinely produce — see the table above for exactly what's supported.

Are my files uploaded during conversion?

No — every conversion above runs with JavaScript libraries loaded from a CDN, executing entirely inside your browser tab.

Does PDFly have other PDF tools, not just conversion?

Yes — merge, split, compress, rotate, watermark, and password-protect PDFs are all free, browser-only tools too. See all PDFly tools.
